I was letting Angel outside for a much-needed break, and she was taking her own sweet time. So I sat down in one of our Adirondack chairs, figuring I’d wait her out for a few minutes. I leaned back, felt the warm sun on my face, and heard the distant sound of a train rolling through on the far edge of the farm fields near our neighborhood. Angel startled me when she jumped up into the chair near me. It had been more than 20 minutes. I petted her for another 10 minutes and we went back inside to work.
I had the most productive work session.
That’s when I decided to take a 30-minute break, outside if possible, every day.
Most workdays, Angel and I head outside to sit in our Adirondack chairs on the patio. It’s 30 minutes of time not spent doing anything but being there.
When we’re in a rush, we miss the goodness of the moment. It’s worth taking that break. Even if the neighbor is getting a new deck installed, you can’t hear the train.
